Vintage Turkeys Live Here....

My turkey collection is not all that big but is just enough to give me that feeling of Thanksgiving.  Some of them live on the fireplace, the rest roost in my chippy cabinet, and the one known as "the big turkey" spends all of his time on the kitchen table.  Most of them are vintage, a few are not, all were bought for "thrifty" prices or on sale.  All my other fall decorations have been put up to make way for Christmas.  Since I'm not working this year, I plan on starting early so I can take my time and enjoy it without feeling stressed or rushed!  Sounds good, right!

I picked up this pine cone back in the 70's on a weekend trip with my parents and sister to
Lake Arrowhead , California.

This is the turkey, affectionately known by my kids as "the big turkey".  He is not vintage,
was bought at Cracker Barrel a few years ago.  I fell in love with his colors and was lucky
enough to be able to get him on sale!

Bad News, I ate all your Halloween Candy....

I know Halloween is over but my daughter showed me this on You Tube and I had to post it! Jimmy Kimmel challenged  Moms to tell their kids that they had eaten all their Halloween candy and to video their reaction.  The last 2 little boys are adorable and have the best reaction of all!
Hope you enjoy it as much as I did!

The Turkeys Have Landed....

Halloween is over and fall is slowly winding down so time to change the mantle out for the last time before all the Christmas excitement begins!  In honor of Thanksgiving, I've gotten out my vintage turkey collection and let a few of them "roost" on the mantle this year!
( Apologizing now for the glare, had to use the flash, it was a dark day)!

Vintage turkey tureen with spoon, $3.00

Turkey planters,  $4.50 and $5.00

Small black bench,  $3.00

This little turkey "flew" away and landed on the end table!

On His Way.....

The time finally arrived, my Air Force boy left for Afghanistan!  I know he will be fine, it's just a little sad and a little scary cuz you never know what will happen.   I feel really confident that he will be fine since he will more then likely never leave the base, which is one of the largest ones over there.  His first stop was Spain for a couple of days to get his jets off and on their way there, then his group followed.  His job is crew chief on the fighter jets which means he over sees that all the work that needs to be done on the jets is properly completed before the pilots take off.  He should be back safe and sound in about 7 months and then he will only have about 3 months before he is out and home for good!

Here are some of my favorite photos of him

On leave in Germany

Soccer game in England right before he came back stateside,  he was stationed there for 18 mos.

I asked him to get a pic of the famous red phone booths in England and like the good son he is.....

This photo is from three years ago when both boys made it home for Christmas
Aaron, Kate, and Chris

Dang, he closed his eyes!  Last photo at the airport

November Inspiration......

When the calender turns to November, I know winter is really on the way!  We get our last bit of beautiful fall weather, we make our pumpkins last just a little longer and the beautiful colors of the leaves gradually turn to shades of brown.
Enjoy!

Cabinet Redo...Kind of..

Decorating my chippy white cabinet for the different holidays and seasons is something I enjoy doing.  My Halloween decor is put up and this is kind of how it will look till I get out my Christmas decorations.
Even though it's still a work in progress,  I'm going to show it to you before it's finished, because, right now, it's all I've got!   I'm not totally happy with it and will be doing some serious tweaking.
