Fairy Tale town..........

Next week, my sister and 2 nieces who live in southern California, are getting ready to take a road trip up the coast to San Francisco.  On the way, they are going to stop at one of my favorite places, Carmel, often referred to as "Carmel by the Sea."  It is one of the most beautiful little towns in the country and is known for it's neighborhood of  "fairy tale cottages."  The 1st one was built in 1924 by a man named Hugh Comstock for his wife as a place to showcase her large doll collection.  He went on to build another called Gretal and then built another named the Obers that he and his wife moved into.  By 1928, 27 more cottages were built not only by him, but other residents who joined in by turning their own cottages into "fairy tale homes."
I don't know about you, but I would love to live in any one of them!

Out Back.......

It's been so hot here, in the 90's every day and counting!! The only relief is in the evening when the sun starts to set and it begins to cool off, not a lot mind you,  just a little. When that happens, there is nothing better then taking a cool drink, preferably my favorite, a frozen margarita,  going out on the patio or deck, sitting in a comfy chair and and watching the sunset's glorious colors slowly fade to black!  Here are some beautiful examples of outdoor spaces I think you might enjoy!

All the above images are from Pottery Barn,
I could just live in that catalog, couldn't you?

Sun, Sand, and Shells.........

Being from California, summer to me means beach!  Since I'm a long way from there, I make do by getting out all my beach accessories.  I love sea shells, beach signs, prints and sand.  I actually have some sand from Huntington Beach California, better known as "Surf City."  My sister brought me a gallon bag of it on one of her visits.  Of course, when she went through baggage x-ray, they had to open her suitcase and check it out.  They just couldn't get why someone would want a bag of sand!  Anyway, here are some summer decorating ideas I thought you might like.
