First Love.....

I hope you didn't think this was about some guy, they can come and go but your first collection, now that's something special!  Back in the mid 90's, after I'd moved to TN from Wis, I went back to visit my 2 BFs and  we went junking. In the very first shop we entered, I saw him, er I mean it,  and, it was gorgeous! It was sitting quietly on the bottom shelf in the midst of piles of chipped and dirty odds and ends, looking very forlorn and lonely.  A perfect little jadite green cup and saucer.  I picked it up and fell in "love"! The price you might ask, a whopping $1.25!  Well, I put it back on the shelf and we left, can ya believe I did that!  We went on to a bunch more shops and had a blast, but, that little cup & saucer was like a siren, calling my name from a far. Finally I could no longer stand it and I asked my BF to take me back to that 1st shop and this time, it came home with me!  Slowly over the next few years it was joined by a lot of other pieces that have come home to live here very happily!  The good part of this story is that I was lucky enough to fall in love with it way BEFORE Martha Stewart was on TV and showed everyone her fabulous collection wwhich sky rocketed the prices!  Some of the dishes shown were purchased for between $10.00 and $20.00 but most were under $10.00.  The mixing bowls were the most expensive, for the set of 4, I paid $45.00
All the pieces shown are vintage, unless otherwise specified.  Here is a good part of my collection.

Set of 4 mixing bowls which is now over a $100.00

Chile bowls, serving bowls, soup bowls, salad bowls

Large platters, salad bowls, desert bowls, dinner plates, salad plates

These pieces are currently being produced

Vintage pieces

Green kitchen utensils are the 2nd  thing I started collecting not long after the jadite.

I love green and these little spice jars are some of my favorite things, they were $2.00 apiece, a real steal!

Just thought I'd show you these cuz I love them, got them on sale at Target a few years ago,
place settings for 4, $8.00

The 3 tier plate and cannisters below are currently being produced

Well, that's most of my collection, didn't get any pics of my mugs and some of my other plates but,
you get the idea!

Till next time.....
Rebecca

They are perfect--I just swoon over that perfect green. It doesn't surprise me that you were ahead of the trend. You have such a great eye for good vintage.

They're absolutely gorgeous! I love the variety of patterns and pieces that you have. That big oval platter is to die for! What a find!

A few years ago, I bought a woman's Jadeite collection off Craigslist for $100. I still can't believe it--I think that ranks up there in my Top 5 all time junking scores!

Love that silverware too--that reminds me so much of my dear Gram. :)

Jadeite is so pretty! I came across a big collection of it at an antique mall not too long ago - and yes, the prices were out of my budget! Nice that you're loyal to your first love!

What a wonderful collection! It's a good thing you bought those pieces before that greedy Martha got to them. :@

LOVE this! Jadeite was my first collection as well. I tend to get sick of collectables easily, but I still love my jadeite as much today as when I began collecting. There's just something about it, isn't there? You have some gorgeous pieces!

Love your jadeite collection. I have some pieces from my mom and grandmother. I know exactly what you mean about the Martha effect on prices--the same thing happened to me when I was collecting pink lusterware dishes. Whatever she shows always skyrockets and I lose interest because it seems so common as it comes out of everyone's closets. Linda

I started with white Fire King, and it is still a favorite. That was back before Martha Stewart drove the prices up. Lovely collection you have.

Thank you for showing your bowls and other things. One of my aunts had a large collection at one time but tired of it and sold it. I don't think I would tire of it because green is one of my favorite colors. I do not have any pieces but I really like the pieces.----------- Shannon

I love jadite. I have a small collection of mixed tea cups and saucers and some mixing bowls. A creamer and a plate that looks like a cabbage leaf. I started collecting early too, but just picked it up as I came across it. Would love to have a set of the spice jars. I mix it with other pieces when I entertain.
