Up or Down .....

Unlike a lot (most) of you who have put up all your Christmas, packed it away and already redecorated all the bare spots left from Christmas decorations,  I am not one of you!  My philosophy is a little different, as my children will be the first to tell anyone who will listen, (they think I'm a little crazy)!  I really love my very realistic "faux" tree and since it only comes out once a year, I like to enjoy it as long as possible, and if that means leaving it up for a little while, ok, maybe a little longer then normal like 1, 2 or maybe 3 weeks, once or twice,  longer after Christmas, I do!  Since I'm not showing you my tree, I feel very brave in admitting that it's still up!  Now, here's the thing, Christmas is gone from everywhere except the tree,  (which is getting closer to going ) and my pinecone garland which I have left on the mantle.  I love having the little white lights on in the evening and the greenery and pinecones feel woodsy and wintry to me,  is that wrong?   Eventually, I get that "everything has gotta go" feeling and then I pack it all up and it's gone till next year.  Is  that weird or what?  So... should I take the garland off the mantle or leave it up for a little while longer?  I just reread this, what am I thinking!  Here I am worrying about my garland being up when I'm sitting here looking at a fully decorated Christmas tree!

(I changed out the 2 trophies on the red box to taller ones)

I really like the refection of the lights on the silver and the mercury glass.
I think the garland will stay up for a "little" longer!
All the trophies were "thrifty" finds before the prices jumped!

Till next time......
Rebecca

I hear ya!! I would have kept my tree up longer too except it was real and on it's last leg the week after Christmas. I wish at least I could have kept some of the twinkly lights up...love those.

Your mantel looks really pretty! I love the trophy cups and the mercury glass. Those will keep the sparkle going long after your lights are gone!!

XO,
Jane

I just had this conversation with myself this past weekend - take down or leave up?? The take down won out. I'm having a girlfriend luncheon next weekend and I thought they might think it strange, so everything came down. I love to leave my trees up during the month of Janaury, it's truly the time that I finally get to sit down and enjoy them - especially at night. I miss their night time glow. So I would say, leave them up, enjoy and maybe a little snow will come your way to enjoy them even more!

I know, I get a little down when the sparkle and specialness is gone. Maybe if you light a bunch of candles on the mantle right after you take it down it will still look festive.

Love the trophies!

I think they could be renamed Winter decoration don't you? They make rooms look so cosy this time of year. Your mantle piece looks lovely.

Don't feel guilty leaving the tree or garland up. Where I live in the cold climate I leave my mantel garland up for most of January until its time for Valentine decorating. Lights on the mantel make our homes so cozy.
Have a good week.

I say leave it up!! That way I won't feel like the last person on Earth to "undecorate". :@

You and I will be taking our decorations down about the same time this year. Our Ranger Christmas is on Saturday and I will be running around like the Tasmanian Devil on Sunday evening packing it all away!

I commend you for your will power to leave it up! It's not that I don't want ours up...it's the dread of taking it down that I want to get over and done with! I too love, love, love having the glow of white christmas lights as the main light source in the evenings. so cozy!

What about doing a cabin feel to the room or just the mantel. That way you can have your lights and your greenery .

Coming over from Savvy Southern. I miss when all the lights are down. I think we should do what makes us happy. The mantel is pretty, and you love it, right? Well there's your answer. 1 great thing about owning a home, you can have it your way!

Hi Rebecca-Thank you for stopping by & following my blog. I've got you on my list now!
I tend to take down my Christmas items the day after. My kids would probably prefer I leave them up!

When I was little my piano teacher would leave their live tree up until March when their daughter celebrated her birthday because that's what the daughter wanted. So I say do what suits your fancy and enjoy! I'm now a follower.

You do whatever floats your boat, and it is as simple as that! Doesn't matter what anyone else thinks. I love the sparkle of the lights too, especially in the early morning when I am drinking my coffee and reading blogs. All of my stuff is down (notice I didn't say put away). I have a friend that leaves a tree up all year long. Actually, she leaves two trees up.
Did you get my e-mail where I responded back to you?

I love the trophies and the lights are really romantic and pretty on the mantle. I love the idea of keeping string lights up all year round.

It takes so long to decorate, you might as well enjoy it as long as you can - the trophy collection is very unique - love it!

I went with your philosophy once or twice as far as leaving what I thought were winter, as opposed to Christmas, touches, and I think that's where your mantle falls, so enjoy it! ~Zuni

My decorations are always woodland, so some things are still out. I left the tree free of ornaments this year, so the tree looks gorgeous by the fireplace (no danger of fire) and it's my husband who asked me to keep it up! Keep it out as long as you want...nothing will happen. : )
Welcome to the rebel club, Rebecca.
